#DISCERNMENT
Discernment is defined as the ability to judge well.
The ability to decide between truth and error, right and wrong
The faculty of discerning; discrimination; acuteness of judgment and understanding.
Because I love a good scripture to back up anything I say, here are a few for you to check out.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Hosea 14:9
Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them For the ways of the LORD are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But transgressors will stumble in them.
Discernment is so important, especially when you’re trying to walk into your purpose, discover your vision and ultimately move forward in life to become a better you.
Why are we discussing this? Why!
Because you are wasting your time hanging around people who you can't learn from or grow with.
Everything you find yourself in, every situation good or bad, it's a lesson in it.
Discernment is needed.
In friendships, relationships, even “situationships” , your family, work place and most importantly with yourself, it’s very important to have a discerning spirit.
Always guard your heart and protect your vision – If 2015 didn’t teach me anything else, it definitely taught me how to guard my heart, meaning not so quick or thirsty to start new friendships, especially ones that proved to not be beneficial.
And it taught me how to protect my vision.
In the era that we live in, everything is happening NOW, social media is the go-to tool for life, love, advice, tips and trips…social media is popping.
But, when you’re a brand on social media, a business on social media, sometimes you have to sit back and meditate, watch.
Be slow to speak but quick to hear.
Protect your vision means to chill, literally. Everyone can’t see what you see when you close your eyes and dream at night. Your close friends or even your boyfriend won’t understand why you sacrifice all of your free time. protect your vision.
#QTNA: How do I know the people around me genuinely support me?
#QTNA: Once I separate myself from the people that I felt like I need to shift from, how I cope with loneliness?
#QTNA: How do I know I have the discerning spirit?
Accountability and Discernment go hand in hand.
Once you learn how to see people for who they really are and not how they “post” tobe or who they portray themselves as, then discernment has taken place.
Once you’re separated yourself and you feel like, “Oh my God, it’s the weekend what do I now? I’m single with no friends.
Pray and fast, use this new found energy and extra time on your hands to think and research. I believe that every woman has two things on the inside of them, a book and business. I’ve been saying it since high school, pick one.
How to be held accountable?
- Choose trusted people
- Allow your partner to actually hold you accountable
- Hold them accountable as well by using the spirit of discernment.
Once you have the spirit of discernment, I can almost guarantee you, your attitude will change and you’ll do better with accepting constructive criticism.
Having discernment means to have peace.
Peace and Discernment come through prayer.
Prayer brings you discernment and peace.
When you make decisions the spirit of discernment is supposed to help you make the right decision.
Signs of Discernment:
- A chance encounter with the right person.
- A thought or conviction that keeps growing.
- Something from the Bible that aligns with what you’ve asked God to reveal to you.
- A thought from a conversation that comes to mind.
- When it becomes harder to do the “wrong” thing or talk to the wrong person.
Remember: a decision empowers you to act.
God never gives us discernment in order that we may critizie, but that we may intercede – Oswald Chambers.
I never learned anything while I was talking – Larry King
Proverbs 13: 20 reads: Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion suffers of fools suffer harm.
