True Love…
We are in the month of February and what many may call “Love Month”. Can I be honest?? I can be all on my Lil Boosie and Webbie I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T hype until I reach this month and then daily reminders of my singleness begin the haunt me.
I walk into Walmart….hearts and giant teddy bears
Target…Candy and singing grams
Jewels Grocery Story….Balloons and chocolate
I had dreams I was being chase by giant teddy bears trying to hug me
I can’t escape pink and red even after the infamous love day, Valentine’s Day
*Sigh* “God what about me? I’ve been single for a loooong time BUT what about me. I want flowers at my job. Or a nice surprise dinner when I arrive home for work…” As I spoke to him he began to speak to me… After I pick myself up from the floor, wiped my tears I began to write in my journal. Here is what I wrote…
#RelationshipGoals or #MarriageGoals on social media, movies, books or television can’t be your evaluation tool for what love feels or look like. If you’re not careful thoughts of bitterness, sadness, anger and/or a tab bit of haterade can cloud your mind.
No matter your relationship status, love is merely more than being in a relationship, sex, fancy outing, cards, flowers and candy.
Love is inside of you and Christ!!!!!!
“Who is this I've tried so long to fight?
Filling my head with lies that I'm not good enough
Then I heard something in my ear
Tell me I'm perfect, now that I know the truth
Time to show and prove” Jazmine Sullivan Masterpiece
Don’t let days like February 14th set an unrealistic expectations for where love can be found. Embrace love 365 days of the year. Silence that voice that wants to tell you love, contentment and happiness is found in a significant other or material things. Jesus died at the cross for your sins to show you true love. Married, engaged of single you are not forgotten by God.
In those moments when you’re feeling disheartened, rejected or lonely let me remind you of what Jesus did just for you. He was humiliated, bruised and murdered on the cross to share in an everlasting love with you. Nothing you do can separate his love from you. In those low moments REMEMBER, adjust your crown, love yourself and go on with life.
“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3
As God loves you, you must also love yourself. If you don’t love yourself, a relationship will NOT complete you. The love of God is the foundation, self-love is the glue. Everything constructs on top of this foundation, and if it isn’t properly put together the building will fall. So invest in YOU. There is something magical and beautiful about self-love. Embrace a guilt free loving relationship with YOU. Take time to self-reflect and purge those thing that may cause you to block the self-love within. Now I have a challenge for you…
Affirmation Challenge
Take each day for the next 30 days and write out words of affirmation. Post them where you can see and repeat to yourself EVERYDAY. Perhaps collect them at the end of the month, put them in a jar and give them to a sister. I’m delighted to see how we will mature with who we are, becoming content in this season in February. #selflove #affirmations
