The E in Entrepreneur stands for…
Hi, I am an entrepreneur. Lol, no seriously. It wasn’t until literally a few days ago did I start owning my title. I am an entrepreneur. I work for myself. I set my own hours. I pay myself and I pay taxes. That alone is another blog in itself. When I saw one of my favorite entrepreneurs, Jerri Chanel acknowledge that today is National Entrepreneur Day, I said, “What the hell? I tend to celebrate everything else might as well pat myself on the back.”
It has been five years since I started the journey of being my own boss. I’ve never had a job so I guess I can say this is the only life I know and one that I’ve often taken for granted. Literally, every other day for the past few months I was revamping my resume over and over again and applying to jobs. I was weary in well doing and overall, weak in the mind and in the body. I couldn’t find the strength to type not nan another chapter or develop another character.
After fifty-something books I wondered did I have anything else to say to my readers. However, the answer was to rest.
Entrepreneurs will resonate with this passport stamp simply because they know that this life doesn’t come with a time clock, paid time off, health insurance, and holiday pay.
It requires dedication, motivation, strength and resilience.
It requires constant prayer and visits back to the drawing board to make sure that you remain on track with your goals.
It requires sacrifice because even on the days when you don’t feel good and you’re not in the mood to work, you still have to work.
Because if you don’t work, you don’t eat.
You lose customers. You lose potential sales. You lose a lot when you’re not consistent.
Entrepreneurship requires something from you daily.
It’s small progress over perfection because you’ll learn as you go.
Although, it’s been made easier for the newcomers with podcast, vital information, free webinars, workshops, downloadables, guides and millions of hours of content on Google and Youtube. You must apply it. All of it.
You have to have willpower to fight this battle because entrepreneurship is constant. It stops when you stop.
You gotta keep going.
I prayed real hard to God about my strength being renewed and I asked him to reconnect me to my vision. My purpose and my passion.
I asked him for fresh oil which means I needed a new pouring into my cup.
My cup had ran empty and I couldn’t been convinced otherwise.
I was tired and over entrepreneurship. I actually rather had a job.
And, it’s nothing wrong with getting a job because we all have bills but who was I to give up on my dream, my prayer and also, God’s promise to me.
I had to remind myself of God’s promises to me.
It’d already been revealed to me by several prophets and people of God of what will happen in my life and I believe it to be true. It’s going to come to pass. I forgot though and sometimes you’ll forget too.
It’s important to find your way back to Him and to the source. Your purpose.
Your WHY and your WHAT.
I’M BACK GRINDING, YALL!
Like never before and I feel liberated.
I’m going to change the world. I’M GOING TO WRITE THESE BOOKS, whether that’s Urban, Romance, Self-Help or just building up women because that’s my true passion.
I’m going to use my voice and my story to help set captives free.
It’s a dream inside of you, you just have to pull it out.
Entrepreneurship comes with a lot of highs and lows. I’ve grown frustrated and overwhelmed plenty of days. It comes with a lot of questions. It comes with doubt but the rewards are greater. They’re plentiful.
Pray constantly over your gift and business.
Show your gratitude for what you have been blessed with.
Don’t ever take it for granted, which was my mistake.
Don’t do that.
Be thankful.
I truly believe that 2020 belongs to those that WANT it to be theirs. Enter your winning season. Don’t wait until the last minute to get your ish together. Start today. Implement your goals now. Revamp. Relaunch. Strategize. Do what you gotta do to get to where you want to be. Time waits on no one. I want you to start today. Carve an hour out to audit your brand. Run the numbers. Sort some things out. Minimize/ Downsize where you see fit. Start a community of other entrepreneurs that you can lean on. Because you cannot do this by yourself. Society will have us to believe that we can but it’s so much easier and sweeter to have a tribe or a team rooting for/with you. PRAY and ask God for discernment when choosing your accountability partners as well. I firmly stand on the importance of having love and support. It means a lot on the days where you want to give up on your dream and sometimes, life too.
The E in Entrepreneur stands for…
Evolve – You have to continue to evolve or you will dissolve.
Embrace – Embrace! The boss that you’re becoming. IT’S YOUR TIME.
Everything – You can do any and everything that you put your mind too. How good does that feel? Bask in your greatness. No one is you and that’s your superpower. Don’t allow society to trick you and think that there is no room for you in your industry. BUILD THE ROOM AND THE AUDIENCE AS WELL.
For the aspiring entrepreneur that’s reading this, I don’t claim to know it all and I’m not swimming in millions of dollars nor am I verified on any social media outlet but numbers don’t lie and there hasn’t been an OFF season yet in the almost five years that I’ve been in business so I do know a little something.
Here are a few gems, take hold on to them and apply where applicable.
1. Don’t get caught up in the hype. – It’s okay to start off small. Don’t waste your money on all the cute stuff (marketing materials) let your business fund those things.
2. Hire a business coach after you’ve done the work – Whenever I’m asked how I do I feel about hiring a business coach, my first question is what have you done? If you haven’t tried on your own first, what will a coach do for you? One year of hard work FIRST. Then holler at a business coach. I’m going into my 5th year and I’m just now considering hiring a coach. I’ve made six figures four times over but now I desire to see seven figures and increasing my residuals incomes so yeah, now I need another opinion.
3. Keep it business – Yes, you should still enjoy life but once you become public that you’re starting a business it’s time out for the memes dishing out your problems. KEEP IT CORPOARATE. If you need to vent, get a blog / podcast and make it work for you.
4. ADMIN / REST DAY – This is important. One day out of the week should be used to handle all your administrative tasks. Even if you’re just starting, you should have some type of admin work to do. Rest is important as well. Don’t let anyone tell you that bosses don’t sleep because we do. AND WE TRAVEL.
5. One thing at a time – I can’t stress this enough. Focus on one thing at a time and read the one thing by Gary Chapman.
Happy Entrepreneur Day to the girl bosses, today is our day! Stay focused and finish the year strong
